Blessed For A Purpose III: The Plan of Blessing

Exodus 20:23-26
23 Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.
NIV

God does everything for a reason – even if we don’t see it or understand it; He does everything with a greater purpose in mind. Nothing we experience in life is meaningless; no part of who we are is without value and everything that God allows us to have is intended for a greater use.

Therefore, God wants us to be good stewards (or managers) of what He blesses us with. The things He gives us is not just for us; He blesses us so that we may in-turn become a blessing to someone else:

Gen 12:2
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
KJV

If God plans to use us in such great ways with the blessings that he give us, then we must understand that there comes some responsibility with being blessed!

This is a huge problem for many Christians, because they do not understand that what they have been given is not just supposed to bless them, but is to also be used as a tool to bring blessing into the lives of others.

It is the character and nature of God to bless; therefore, as children of God, we too are to have a character and nature of blessing:

2 Peter 1:2-4
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
KJV

God blesses us with everything we need for physical and spiritual life! He supplies our needs through the promises of His word and brings those promises to pass so that we can spiritually ingest the spiritual nutrients of His divine nature – a blesser! And because we are so blessed by Him, there is no need to lust for anything at all because we know that we have everything that we need in Him.

Now, because of what he deposits in us by blessing us, we become more like Him because He is in us; and His character and nature of blessing becomes more and more our character and nature – and that’s when we become a blessing – because we do what He does!

But, in order to be in this position, we must be willing to properly manage the blessings that He gives us!

Here are two things we must remember when God blesses us with stuff:

1. Don’t embrace the stuff: “Do not make any gods to be alongside me”
2. Don’t elevate the stuff: “do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.”

God blesses us with things because of who He is and so that we can become more like whom He is.
